November News 2024
by Amanda Glassburner, COTA
Dear Therapy Busy Box Community,
As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving season, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for all of you who make Therapy Busy Box possible.
This month, we had the pleasure of showcasing our products at the Texas Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA) Annual Conference right here in Frisco, TX, on November 15th and 16th. It was a joy meeting students, educators, and OT practitioners who are passionate about helping others thrive. We loved sharing our tools and hearing stories from so many who have benefited from our Boxes.
Celebrating a Milestone
We’re also thrilled to share a milestone with you: Therapy Busy Box has been in business for 4 ½ years, and during that time, we’ve sold nearly 2,000 Therapy Busy Boxes! We’ve sent orders across almost all 50 states and internationally to Canada, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and the UK. Each Box is carefully prayed over with the hope that the tools inside will support each user in achieving their goals.
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible customers—you allow me to live my dream of being a business owner while making a difference. Thank you for being part of our story!
Thanksgiving-Themed Fine Motor Activities for Kids
1. Turkey Feather Sorting - Use clothespins to pick up colorful craft feathers and sort them by color into small bowls. This strengthens finger muscles and improves color recognition.
2. Pumpkin Seed Tweezing - After carving a pumpkin, have children use tweezers to pick out the seeds, placing them into a bowl. Dry them for later crafting or counting activities!
3. Corn Kernel Spoon Race - Fill a bowl with dried corn kernels and have kids scoop them into a second bowl using a small spoon. This improves hand-eye coordination.
Fall-Themed Fine Motor Activities for Adults
1. Leaf Threading Garland - Gather fall leaves and use a needle and thread to create a garland. Punch a small hole in the leaves first if needed. This activity refines hand dexterity.
2. Candle Jar Decorating with Twine and Beads - Take a small glass jar (such as a mason or baby food jar) and wrap twine or thin jute around it, securing it with small knots or glue at intervals. For an added challenge, string small beads or fall-themed charms (e.g., leaves or acorns) onto the twine as you wrap.
Note: This activity requires precision and finger dexterity, especially when threading the beads and evenly spacing the twine for a neat, decorative effect.
3. Acorn Sorting Challenge - Use XL tweezers from your Therapy Busy Box to sort acorns and various size sticks or toothpicks by size into separate containers. Add a timer for an extra challenge!
