The WHY Behind the Box
Amanda Glassburner, COTA
Hi there and thank you for visiting our website. Therapy Busy Box is a resource for parents and caregivers who want to help their loved ones with fine motor development. My name is Amanda Glassburner. I have been a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant for the past 17 years and it has been my pleasure to work with both pediatrics and geriatrics throughout the majority of my professional career.
The idea behind Therapy Busy Box came to me over the years while working in an inpatient rehabilitation hospital. There, patients participate in 3 hours of therapy for 5 days a week. Although that sounds like a lot of time in therapy, that also leaves a significant amount of downtime in their hospital room. Family members would often ask what they could do with their loved one while in the room or at home after discharge to continue to work on their fine motor/grip strength goals. There was no "go-to" product or website I could refer them to so why not create one?
My hope is that Therapy Busy Box will help parents progress their children through many developmental milestones or give friends and families or caregivers the tools they need to engage with their loved one during their rehab journey, allowing them to become a part of the solution during a potentially difficult and sometimes helpless time.
